Photo of Axe-Wielding Invader Released

Investigators are releasing the name of the axe-wielding man accused of forcing his way into a deputy's Apopka home.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office says 40-year-old Steven Thayer is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and armed burglary with a deadly weapon. He's also charged in connection with another attempted break-in in the same neighborhood.

Deputy Bridget Erwin shot Thayer several times after he broke into her home late yesterday afternoon. She was able to handcuff him before her colleagues arrived to take him into custody.

The sheriff says the Deputy Erwin and her children were not hurt, but they were shaken up by the ordeal.
