A Bill Would Require The VA To Allow Congressmen Office Hours At Hospitals

Vets Fight To Keep Hospital Opened

After hearing from countless veterans across the state, the Department of Veterans Affairs will once again allow members of Congress to hold office hours at its hospitals.

"Hats off to every veteran that went out there and called and spoke up. It mattered."

In December, District 18 Representative Brian Mast was evicted from the office he shared with other congressmen in West Palm Beach and two other lawmakers had to leave an Orlando-area VA facility.

But Mast says plans are in the works to once again meet with veterans at those hospitals as soon as next week, after officials had a change of heart.

Meanwhile, he says a bill that would require the Department of Veterans Affairs to allow members of Congress to open offices inside VA hospitals across the country is making progress in DC.

"We're getting more co-sponsors on it on a regular basis. We're going to have a legislative hearing on that bill probably coming up in the next month, maybe two months in the VA Committee in Washington."

Mast says the offices give veterans on-the-spot access to members of Congress.
