New Automated Baggage Screening System Takes Off At Miami International

A new automated baggage screening system lands at Miami International this morning. The state-of-the-art system in the Central and South terminals should double the speed and efficiency of screening for checked backs in concourses E, F, G, H and J. It adds 9 miles of conveyor belts and 12 of the latest explosives detection system machines. Spokesman Greg Chin says if any bag has to be re-scanned it will be delivered to the TSA agent by a robotic table so the screener no longer has to pick up bags. The new 324-million-dollar system is being funded by the county and a 1- million-dollar TSA grant.
