Finding Mentors for Foster Teens

TALLAHASSEE -- Florida's Guardian Ad Litem (LIE-tem) program is looking for adult role models to show foster teens basic tasks... such as setting up a bank account, renting a house, and applying for college.

"Many of these kids do not have family. They do not have parents that they can depend on. They do not have parents that are role models, to inspire them to go on to greater things and live out their dreams, " says the Guardian ad Litem program's executive director, Alan Abramowitz.

The program has reached out to the Florida Association for Women Lawyers to mentor young women about to age out of foster care.

Lawyers interested in mentoring teens can contact the Guardian Ad Litem program at www.GuardianAdLitem.org.

Trainings for mentors are going on now, across the state.

Information from the News Service of Florida was used in this report.
