COVID Vaccine Partnership With Publix Expands To Palm Beach, Martin, Monroe

The partnership between the state of Florida and Publix pharmacies is kicking it up a notch in the effort to inoculate the public against the coronavirus.

"We will now have 181 Publix pharmacies across 15 counties providing vaccines to senior citizens."

Gov. Ron DeSantis in Jupiter on Tuesday said that includes all 67 Publix pharmacies in Palm Beach County. It will be the state's largest county to offer the inoculations through the supermarket chain.

"Not only one of our biggest counties, but you have 25 percent of this county is 65 and older."

The governor also announced that seven Publix pharmacies in Martin County will have the vaccine, along with two in Monroe County.

He says the state's efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic has been ramping up quickly.

"We are close to 700,000 seniors that have received at least their first shot and those numbers are growing rapidly."

DeSantis says 400,000 seniors in Florida were vaccinated against the disease last week and he's asked the federal government for more doses.

The web portal to get an appointment in the new counties opens on Wednesday with the vaccinations beginning on Thursday.
